Alex Chassels, Dorigo’s VP Operations, participated in a panel discussion covering “Manufacturing post-COVID-19: Ramping up again” presented by Canadian Manufacturing, EP&T and Plant magazines. Alex gave a ‘boots on the ground’ perspective of what it has been like for Dorigo Systems to operate as an essential service during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Key takeaways from his presentation – always take a People First approach. “It’s people that drive the process and technology,” said Alex “Getting our team back to work required a framework for complying with Worksafe BC and a clear direction and understanding as to what everyone’s role and responsibilities are to keep safe.”
Dorigo provides masks to all of its employees and requires that they be worn at all times. In addition, only staff are able to access the premises during the pandemic. Touchless delivery, monitoring and regular sanitizing of the shipping bays has also been essential.
What is the Dorigo People First Approach? It comprises three elements – Tools, Framework and Resources
Tools
- – Business Continuity Plans
- – Change Management Process
- – Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA)

“There are positive outcomes to COVID 19,” said Alex “We now have a healthier workforce with improved productivity and a stronger team as everyone knows how to best work together to remain safe.”
